Photography alum Elle Pérez’s monochrome photographs explore queer and Latinx spaces — from underground wrestling to LGBTQ nightclubs (among them Baltimore’s now shuttered club, The Hippo). Grouped together, these images propose an imagined community where all elements of Latinidad and queerness are celebrated.
After graduating from ¾ÅÉ«ÊÓƵ, Pérez went on to get an M.F.A in Photography from Yale School of Art. Their work has been featured in Aperture and The Fader, and they recently participated in a panel discussion at MoMA entitled “What Makes Contemporary Photography Feminist and Queer?” They are currently an assistant professor at Harvard, a critic at RISD and a dean at the Skowhegan School of Painting and Sculpture.
