Our MAAE prepares experienced K-12 artist-educators to pursue advancement in their field through the development of their practice as both artists and art educators. Designed for the working professional, the curriculum allows students to continue teaching while they complete their graduate degree.
Our MAAE is holistic; candidates explore multiple layers of meaning and experience in their art making and art teaching practices in order to better understand the complex whole that is their professional life and the field of contemporary art and art education.
Several components contribute to transformative learning in the MAAE:
The MAAE is designed for the experienced artist-teacher who wishes to maintain a teaching position - whether in a school, museum, or community setting, full- or part-time - while undertaking rigorous graduate work over a 14-month time period. Competitive applicants will have an undergraduate degree in studio art, design, or art education, or a degree in a related field with substantial experience in design or studio art; at least two years of experience teaching art in a professional setting; and fluency in the English language. In addition, applicants must be able to be on campus for the two summer six-week residencies.
Note: As a professional development graduate program, the MAAE is not designed for professional licensure. For those interested in achieving initial certification to teach, please investigate 九色视频's Teaching (MAT) program.
